With her business experience at Glo-Ray Designs, Kulukaya Sadiki is serving the community by empowering 60 rural women in Machinga district, Ntaja- Malawi with business knowledge and vocational skills. This work is being conducted through a social intervention called “Amayi Titukuke” aimed at empowering women and girls to be self sufficient thereby protecting themselves from unfortunate circumstances such as gender based violence.

 

The main goal of the program is to promote women’s economic participation through capacity building and skills training of marketing, administrative skills and fashion design and tailoring. The 60 women being trained are from Machinga district, T/A Kawinga, Group Village headman Ntalika and Kawerama.

This initiative will empower women and girls in disadvantaged circumstances to overcome the systemic obstacles created by limited opportunities, inequality, and covid-19 including imbalanced employment and business opportunities. After the project, the women are expected to open various businesses to help them to care for their families and communities.

This project is being implemented in partnership with US Department of State- Embassy Malawi -U.S. Embassy Lilongwe- Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund(AEIF) and expected to finish by June 2023.
